Animal Talk Scavenger Hunt

Come to the museum dressed as your favorite animal and learn how animals talk! Doctor Doolittle was able to talk with animals, why can’t you? Doctor Dolittle learned animal languages and made animal friends all over the world. Use the clues around the museum to find six animal friends and learn how they communicate!

Snowy Owls at Duxbury Beach

As they migrate south from their breeding grounds in the Arctic tundra, snowy owls make a stop to winter over the Massachusetts coast. Join Mass Audubon as they learn about research on these magnificent creatures, and seek them out in vans provided by Mass Audubon. Additional seasonal sights may include snow buntings and wintering wildfowl.
Registration is required. Participants will meet at Duxbury Beach, on the ocean side of the Powder Point Bridge, and explore together in Mass Audubon vans.

Celebrate Smoky and Bubba’s Birthday!

Oh brother! Black bears Smoky and Bubba are celebrating their 14th birthday in January, and guests are invited to join in on the festivities! The bear exhibit will be decorated for the occasion and the brothers will enjoy birthday treats just for them. There will also be something sweet for guests, who can enjoy a slice of birthday cake from Montilio’s Baking Company of Brockton (available for the first 200 people, first-come, first-served).
Stop by the exhibit to meet the zookeepers and ask questions, and be sure to sign Smoky and Bubba’s giant birthday card!
Bob The Magic Guy Presents “Magic For Smart People”

Magic For Smart People will make you believe in the impossible again while making you smile and laugh. Bob Filene hasn’t always worked as a magician. About ten years ago he had only a rough knowledge of magic tricks gleaned from his teenage years. Then one day a performer in an airport rekindled his interest, leading him to explore the wider magical community. He soon discovered Ray Goulet’s Magic Art Studio in Watertown, which put him into contact with the American Society of Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. As a member in those organizations, Bob has flourished, becoming the magic guy he is today.
Free Autism-Friendly Evening

Families with members who have autism family can play, explore, experiment, and imagine together while the museum is closed to the general public and headcount is limited. Dinner, including a gluten-free option, is provided courtesy of Not Your Average Joe’s, Acton. A certified therapy dog from Pets & People Foundation Inc. will be in attendance from 5:30 – 7 p.m. to meet some new friends!

Free Family Ice Skating

The Skating Club of Boston Skating Academy at Foxboro will be open to families on January 12! Ice time will be on Rink 2, and coaches will be available to assist young children. Skate rentals will be available for $5.00 from the Pro Shop, and helmets are recommended for beginners.
