Before we moved to East Boston, it felt like a distant land, far across the water from the rest of Boston. Now, after having lived here for almost a decade, I cannot imagine a better place to live — or raise kids. One stop away from downtown Boston on the MBTA Blue Line or a short water-taxi ride away, it's an easy location for an adventure and offers a myriad of options to parents of young children!
My dad passed away in 2012, and every year since, I have honored his birthday with a Boston cream doughnut toast. I recently found out October 23 is National Boston Cream Pie Day. So, in honor of my dad, Dave, here is a compilation of seven of the "best Boston cream pies goin'!" in the Boston area.
Everyone thinks of fall as apple picking season. And apple picking is great — don't get me wrong. But when my family goes apple picking, we fight the crowds, someone always winds up with a tummy ache, and we pick more apples than we can eat. It's a once-a-season trip for us. There are so many other awesome things for families to do in the fall! Here are my top seven fall activities for families in and near Boston.
All of a sudden, the school year has begun, the leaves are starting to change, and I'm putting on a sweater. This is the time for apple picking, for yard clean up, and for fall soups. Yes, soup! As the days start getting shorter and the temperatures start dipping, I find nothing more comforting than a bowl of soup. And as a mom of two trying to get dinner on the table after a day at the office, there is nothing more comforting than my Instant Pot — my amazing set-and-forget, one-appliance wonder.
If you are going through the daunting task of trying to pick a preschool or a private school, we're here for you! We’ve put together a fantastic list of private schools and preschools in Boston and beyond. There's something for everyone here, and we hope it helps you figure out what is best for you and your family!
Now that we're heading into fall, all we want to do is soak up the nice weather. As a Boston mom, there’s so much to do in the city! But when you have an 8-month-old who doesn’t do a whole lot yet, where do you go? Here are some of our favorite Boston day trips for mom and baby.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of the wind in your hair as you glide along on your bike! If you are looking for the perfect, safe spot for a ride, check out some of these great Massachusetts bike trails with your family!
As a mother of three little ones who also works outside the home, I keep a lot of schedules in my brain. In summer, it feels like everyone is doing something new every week, and it's a challenge to keep track of it all. I have definitely had moments of panic when I forget where my oldest is and think that I've forgotten to pick her up on time. I'll be grateful to get back into the school routine and have it stay the same for the next nine months!
Before becoming a parent, I thought I understood cabin fever. And, sure, after a few days inside I might get antsy, but I still relished slow days curled up with coffee and binge watching Netflix. As a parent, cabin...
